very nice detail and color ;) but i like spiders in nature and without digital effects on photos with them. For macro i recommend.... i dont know this word. google says "monofocal". is that right? i mean not zoom but the other =P cause this kind of lens gives you much better quality. It may be 50mm, or even less. Most of my makro photos in my gallery on DA i take with analog M42 Old Russian Lens called Mir 35mm and extension tubes, analog as well.
My light in makro is built in flash with homemade diffuser.
Yes i got dedicated flashes, but i dont need them in most of cases. Maybee sometimes with radio, when i want flash in some special direction but lots of toys can slow you down and make you thing about your camera instead of your object! Remember that!!!
i never use tripod.... mabeyee sometimes =) in 1 on 199 cases. I got strong hands. Anyway i use short lenses like this Mir 35 that i told you about and DOF is not so small. Flash gives me good aperture numer (about F9 - F14 sometimes). But its changeing with light condition. ISO is very important. Stay close to ISO100.
Remember to stay silent and try to move slowly. Spiders can feel you with their senses =) little beasts. I like to watch hunting spider!

I hope that helps. SOrrY foR mY eNglish =P mistakes and bugs *__*
